Who We Are
What is the Bronx RHIO?
Regional Health Information Organizations are also known as Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) or Qualified Entities (QEs) in New York State. They are organizations that enable healthcare and other service providers to access and share patient records from all of their participants across the state. RHIOs provide a platform governed by strict security and confidentiality policies for exchanging health-related information between providers who might not otherwise have a secure means of doing so.
The Bronx RHIO builds on its health information exchange capabilities to offer services such as secure messaging between providers, clinical alerts on patients, and advanced analytics. But RHIO participants receive much more than a platform for exchanging patient records with other providers. They also get access to a valuable tool for staying up to date about their patients’ healthcare utilization, for sharing key actionable patient information with fellow providers in real time, and for tracking clinical quality measures for patient populations.
Our participation in the Statewide Health Information Network for New York allows Bronx RHIO members to access data from all SHIN-NY participant organizations.
Our Mission
To improve the lives of the residents of New York – and our country – by enabling healthcare professionals to readily, securely access the myriad information they need to provide highly individualized, holistic care.
Our Vision
A research-based, data-driven healthcare system in which all providers will be able to securely access the vital information they need – in real time – to deliver and coordinate the best possible care for their patients.
The Bronx RHIO facilitates the exchange of health information to improve the overall quality of care.
We do this by…
Saving providers time in limiting the need to call and fax information between offices.
Improving patient privacy protection by limiting the risk of protected health information (PHI) exposure through less-secure record sharing practices.
Reducing costs for participating organizations by eliminating redundancy: unnecessary procedures and duplicate tests can be prevented by more accurately tracking a patient’s history across providers and facilities.
Alerting in real time on patient hospitalizations across New York State so that providers can manage high-risk patients more closely and prevent avoidable acute care visits.
Improving patient safety by providing access to a complete patient history without relying on a patient’s recollection.
Helping healthcare providers to close gaps in care and achieve their value-based payment goals for patients using our clinical quality measure reporting.
Prioritizing workflow integration so that Bronx RHIO’s data enriches existing data and workflows at participant organizations.
Supporting public health by working closely with the State and City health departments and participating in approved research projects.
Earning NCQA’s Data Aggregator Validation (NCQA DAV) Validated Data Stream status in order to promote trust in aggregated clinical data.

All six New York State RHIOs are connected through the Statewide Health Information Network for New York. By joining the Bronx RHIO, you can access data from all these organizations, among numerous other benefits. Membership can also help providers qualify for certain statewide and federal funding programs, such as Patient Centered Medical Home.
