Community Impact

Health Information Exchanges like the Bronx RHIO benefit all members of the communities where they operate.

The Bronx RHIO benefits New York residents by:

Allowing providers to access health records with the patient’s consent

Providers accessing patient records through the Bronx RHIO can prevent the need for patients to request copies of their medical records and bring them to new providers. If you have to go to the hospital, the Bronx RHIO can alert your doctor so that they can coordinate your care.

Improving safety and quality of care

Doctors, health systems, and payors evaluate the quality of healthcare using measurements that require clinical data. These measures can be used to get a complete picture of your care and find areas for improvement. The Bronx RHIO offers thorough and recent data with which to measure care quality.

Preventing unnecessary tests and medical procedures

When your provider can see your lab tests and procedures done at other facilities, they have a more complete baseline to better understand your progress over time. They also may not need to perform certain tests and procedures again.

Providing valuable insights at the population level

The health system your doctor is a part of may use data about groups of people with certain health conditions to develop plans to improve their healthcare services to the community. This is known as Quality Improvement, and RHIO data helps inform such decision-making.
